Just kidding.

I’m Bryan Hamann.

I’ve been a lot of things, but at the moment, I’m a data scientist by day and a personal trainer, bootcamp instructor, Ironman triathlete and obstacle racer by night. I also like to lift heavy objects and I’m 1 of 3 people in the world who love burpees!


Firstly, about the site:

What’s the purpose of the site?

I built this site out of a passion for fitness, healthy living and adventure. I am a firm believer in the saying,

“a healthy body = a healthy mind”.

Personally, I’ve always felt best, most alive, confident and happy when I’ve been in good shape and living healthily.

There are also countless stories of how guys and girls have transformed their lives through exercise and sport, how it has literally saved their lives……it’s not just me who believes if you want to improve your life, start by improving your body.

I’ve seen it happen far too often, people just seem to “let themselves go” as the years wear on, they get more and more out of shape, lead increasingly unhealthy lifestyles and come up with more and more elaborate excuses as to why they’re out of shape and why their lives are out of balance.

Be it a corporate executive, a housewife, a recent high school/college graduate, someone embarking on a new career, someone who has just moved to a new city etc, they all owe it to themselves to have the best possible body, because having the best body you can goes hand-in-hand with having the best life you can.

Unless you have a legitimate medical reason, I’m not one who accepts excuses.PERIOD.

So it’s my sincere hope that through this site I’ll be able to help thousands upon thousands of people out there (that includes you) achieve their full physical potential, be it to lose weight, get a six pack, get buff or just be generally fit, strong and healthy. You owe it to yourself to have your best possible body!

There’s a lot of crap out there!

There are thousands of fitness websites out there. Many of them are great and provide fantastic information. Sadly though, many are not that great.

My aim is to keep things simple and to ultimately ‘help you help yourself’.

I’m here to give you the tools and knowledge to get into great shape. No one can have a personal trainer working with them indefinitely, but if you’re knowledgeable and have the correct tools at your disposal, you won’t need one.

I believe in simplicity!

There are ‘hot new fads’ coming out all the time. People jump from one training philosophy or fad to another, unconsciously thinking it must be some kind of ‘silver bullet,’ allowing them to skip all of the necessary hard work and get great results. I’ve been guilty of this myself

The truth is, there are no ‘magic routines’ or ‘silver bullets.’ If you wan’t to be in great shape, you have to work hard for it!

I’m here to show you how to work hard, but in the smartest, most efficient way. Nobody wants to waste their time.

In addition to keeping things simple, I believe in keeping things efficient and cheap.

You don’t need to belong to a gym, you don’t need to spend a fortune on supplements and you don’t need a ton of equipment.

In fact, I got into the best shape of my life (see pic below), while living in a tiny apartment in Asia, without access to a gym. I did nothing but bodyweight training to get into this kind of shape.


So if you’re on a budget, don’t be discouraged, you can get AMAZING results without needing to spend much money.

Now a bit about me:

Well, to start off, I basically started out high school as a nobody, skinny and unimpressive, lurking in the shadows. 

I started working out when I was about 13 or 14, I can’t remember exactly. After 2 years of dedicated training I had transformed my life, all of a sudden people (girls included) were starting to notice the transformation. 

By the time I left high school I was basically the “go-to guy” for how to get in shape and had acquired the nickname, “Tank” – a nickname that has stuck to this day.

For a little while after high school I considered going into a career in health and fitness, but eventually decided I needed to get a “real job”. I considered becoming for a doctor for a while. I enrolled in a BSc degree with the hope of going to medical school afterwards.

To cut a long story short, I never made it as far as medical school, but I did graduate university with a BSc degree, with a double major in Biochemisty and Microbiology.

Shortly after that, I was headhunted by one of the largest banks in South Africa (yeah, that’s right, a scientist in a bank, go figure?)

I’m still doing the corporate thing these days. I’ve enjoyed a pretty successful career as a Data Scientist.

But my passion still remains health, fitness and adventure.

I’ve done some personal training and I teach bootcamps occassionally. I got certified as an ISSA personal trainer in 2011 and I’m also a certified bootcamp instructor.

I prefer teaching bootcamps to one-on-one training and I run a couple of bootcamps every year, but what I really enjoy is writing. Writing a great fitness article and getting hundreds of comments and a great response is what really excites me the most.

I’ve also just recently finished my first fitness book, THE PRISON WORKOUT. It’s the story of, and the program I followed to get into the best shape of my life, using nothing but bodyweight exercises in a tiny apartment.


 I’ve done a few triathlons including the Ironman, and I’ve been a national-level competitor in obstacle racing. I really do practice what I preach.
