10 Things your grandparents ate that you should too!

I recently read an article on the popular health and wellness website, Tunedbody.com which highlighted some of the things our grandparents ate that made them healthy, vibrant and strong. They were probably a hell of a lot better off physically and healthwise than we are today (at the equivalent age.)

They ate a lot of things that are considered taboo these days. What you always have to remember though, is that huge corporations control our food these days, and it’s in their interest to have us believing certain things are “healthy” or “unhealthy” based on what will bring them the biggest profit margins..

The use of high fructose corn syrup as a sweetening agent in just about everything was driven by profit and is a major contributing factor in today’s obesity epidemic. Fat is not necessarily the enemy as mentioned in this article, but rather sugar and the inflammatory effect it causes.

So here are the 10 things our grandparents ate, that we should too:

I suggest you read the main article which can be found here, to fully understand how to incorporate some of these things into your diet, and also to realise that moderation was key in the way they used these things in their diet.

  1. Large Breakfast
  2. Unprocessed food
  3. Home gardening
  4. Eating Entire animals
  5. Butter and Gravy
